After her return to her residence in Switzerland, Fiona from Manchester wrote us the following letter.

Hi Alexandra,

Firstly, my apologies for not contacting you sooner and for not writing in German. If I were to write in German, you may never receive something as at the moment it takes too long and time is in short supply.

Thanks to you, Marion and Barbara I had a great 2 weeks in Bamberg. It was only on my return to Switzerland that I realized how much I had learnt and surprisingly, seem to have remembered! It was a real treat to have a couple of weeks to concentrate on learning German, rather than trying to fit it in with everything else in life. Due to my two weeks at Treffpunkt my motivation to learn German has returned. I had been in a "catch 22" situation, not studying as much as I should and therefore not improving but at the same time being frustrated with myself for not knowing enough but then too disheartened to study. Treffpunkt changed this and I am enjoying studying again. Thanks to you all!

We had a test this morning in German class; "modal verben in präteritum, vocab and nebensätze". I think I did OK, we will see next week.

I'm going to Konstance shopping on Saturday with a friend (who is fluent in German-she lived in Berlin for 5 years), she has said that only German must be spoken........so we are in for a quiet day then! Joking aside, it will be good practice. Being back here, surrounded by schweizerdeutsch made me realize that learning German in Germany is far easier, which is why we chose to go to Konstance, instead of Zürich, and it's only an hour away.

So I'll sign off now. I have sent a "Thank-you" card to my family, Astrid and Volker, today too, I would stay with them again they are just so....well COOL!

Thanks again to you all, please pass on my thanks to my teachers Marion & Barbara. Although something will arrive through the post in the next few weeks. I am going to the UK for the weekend to see my sister, so I will send you a bar of Galaxy chocolate seeing as you haven't tried it. I think it is best direct from the fridge.
