~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ September 2000 I was lucky enough to spend 5 weeks at TREFF PUNKT in Bamberg learning German. Before I arrived I had no German language proficiency. After 5 weeks of intensive study, I felt reasonably confident to converse in German with shopkeepers, people in the street and my German-speaking friends. For me, the main benefit of studying in Bamberg was the total language immersion. Unlike say in Vienna or Munich, I had to try and speak in German. Most locals will not automatically switch to English as they do in big cities. This was scary at first, but I think really contributed to the speed with which I picked up the language, that and TREFF PUNKT’s very competent teaching staff. I can recommend the experience and have every intention of returning to TREFF PUNKT to further improve my German. Matthew McGuigan-Lewis |
